------------------------------------------------------------------------- wcsmusic - Virtual Javanese Gamelan version 1.0 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- You are advised to read this document before download & running the "Virtual Javanese Gamelan" application. It contains important information regarding minimum and recommended specifications and software requirements. The Virtual Javanese Gamelan application has been thoroughly tested on the recommended specifications indicated below. Whilst the application will run on machines lower than this (see minimum specifications) the performance will be reduced. Stability and performance of the application on machines lower than the minimum specification cannot be guaranteed. This application has been designed to run from the hard drive of individual machines only. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Minimum Specification for running "Virtual Javanese Gamelan" ------------------------------------------------------------------------- No other applications should be running. PC: Pentium III running at 550 Mhz Windows 98 SE - minimum of 128Mb of RAM (Windows 2000/XP requires 256Mb) 650mb of free hard disk space Sound Blaster 64 card or equivalent Minimum of 16 bit colours running at 800x600 QuickTime 6.2 or higher installed Macintosh: G3 running at 400Mhz Mac OS 10.2.6 64Mb of RAM (after the system software has loaded) 650Mb of free hard disk space. Support for 16 bit colours running at 800x600 and sound QuickTime 6.2 or higher installed Running the Virtual Javanese Gamelan application on a computer below this specification will result in an erratic and sub-standard multimedia experience! Other operating systems are not supported. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Recommended Specification for running "Virtual Javanese Gamelan" ------------------------------------------------------------------------- No other applications should be running. PC: Pentium IV running at 1.5 Ghz or higher Windows 2000/ XP 512 Mb of RAM 650mb of free hard disk space Sound Blaster 128 card or equivalent Minimum of 24 bit colours running at 800x600 QuickTime 6.2 or higher installed Macintosh: G4 running at 1ghz or higher Mac OSX 10.3.7 512Mb of RAM. 650Mb of free hard disk space Support for 24 bit colours running at 800x600 and sound QuickTime 6.2 or higher installed Other operating systems are not supported. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Downloading the Virtual Javanese Gamelan application ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Both the PC and Mac applications are approximately 110Mb. Click on the download link that matches your machine's operating system i.e. PC or Mac OSX. Once the application has been downloaded to your computer double-click on the folder and then double click on the 'start' icon. (Please be patient whilst the application is loading). NB: You must have QuickTime version 6.2 installed on your machine. Please refer to the section below for further details. A folder entitled 'User Files' has been included which can be used to store all recordings, compositions and reports. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. QuickTime ------------------------------------------------------------------------- The 'Play' and 'Compose' sections of the application requires QuickTime 6.2 or greater to be installed. The application will automatically detect if you have QuickTime 6.2 or greater installed. If you do not have the required QuickTime version you will be prompted to go to the Apple/QuickTime web site to download the latest version. http://www.apple.com/quicktime As with all new software you should restart your computer after installing QuickTime ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. Troubleshooting: ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) When using a lower specified machine, you may experience Intermittent sound clipping. This is usually caused by an inadequate sound card or incompatible sound card drivers. Due to the nature of the application you may need to update your sound card drivers or upgrade your sound card. 2) As with all new software, it is recommended that once you have installed QuickTime on your computer you should re-start it before using the application. Failure to do so may result in minor functionality loss. 3) If you're experiencing slow loading time you may need to defragment your hard drive using a commercial solutions such as Diskeeper. 4) If you are still experiencing intermittent crashes when using the Virtual Javanese Gamelan application, and you have tried points 1 to 3. Try re-starting your machine and running the application again. 5) Within the 'Compose' section of the application you are able to 'preview', 'edit', 'export' and 'save' your composition. PLEASE NOTE that the 'preview/export' function can take up to 15 minutes if you have composed a 4 cycle piece with the Imbal and Sekaran embellishment. 6) In order to reload your 'composition' or your 'recording' you must remember to 'save' your piece as this saves the data that the application will require. 7) The My World section of the application only stores results from the "current session". If you want to keep a log of progress, you are advised to 'save' the My World report by clicking on the 'save' button.
